Jaar één van het MSc Business Management met Professional Placement Year-programma is opgebouwd rond zes moduleblokken. De eerste en laatste moduleblokken zijn afzonderlijk gepland als inleidende en sluitsteen-leerervaringen. De vier overige modules worden in paren geprogrammeerd.

We recognise that you will be making a transition from one area of study to another, to a more advanced level of learning, and possibly to a different learning culture. Consequently, the block structure provides an enriched opportunity for extended learning activities, class interaction and review of learning to enhance understanding. It also enables us to offer extra support for individual students to build their confidence.

The introductory module sets the scene for the rest of the programme by considering the key features of the business environment and how this shapes organisations and their decisions. You will then examine core management concepts and practices associated with a range of functional areas.

The modules that follow will help you consider the latest research and practice in business management, including core areas such as marketing, strategy, finance, logistics, economics and human resources.

Your enhanced knowledge and skills will be integrated and applied in a capstone ‘Business in Action’ module. Here you will explore a series of large-scale and complex global issues that present significant dilemmas for the effective management of business.

Choice and specialisation are embedded within modules. For example, the ‘Business in Action’ module will provide you with the opportunity to focus on a contemporary debate or issue that has particular relevance for your future career.

Tijdens je tweede jaar volg je een professionele stage die je de kans biedt om de kennis die je in het eerste jaar van het programma hebt opgedaan, te relateren en toe te passen in een specifieke professionele omgeving. Tijdens je stage voer je ook een adviesproject uit waarin je een diagnose stelt en praktische oplossingen voor een organisatorisch probleem aanbeveelt.

Je ontwikkelt en past de belangrijkste technische en zachte vaardigheden toe die nodig zijn voor effectief bedrijfsbeheer. U zult zien dat uw zelfvertrouwen als toekomstige manager cumulatief tijdens het programma wordt opgebouwd, omdat u meerdere kansen krijgt om te reageren op praktische uitdagingen op het gebied van bedrijfsbeheer.

All modules are underpinned by a concern to examine the contrasting political, economic, socio-cultural, technological, legal and environmental factors that inform management decision-making in different international business contexts. Understanding these dynamics will help you to reflect on the multiple factors that offer opportunities and constraints on management decision-making.

Year One

Het programma is een tweejarige voltijdse masteropleiding. In het eerste jaar (fase één) voltooi je twee semesters aan onderwezen modules ter waarde van 120 studiepunten. Tijdens het voorjaarssemester word je ondersteund bij het aanvragen van stages ter voorbereiding op je stagejaar.

Studenten die aan het einde van fase één 120 studiepunten met succes hebben afgerond, mogen doorstromen naar fase twee.

How Will I Be Assessed?

The block programme structure provides plenty of opportunities for you to reflect on your learning and development informally. Short knowledge/skill review activities are built into each module to help you check your progress and improve your approach to learning. This will build your confidence and enhance your approach to formal assessment tasks.

Een verscheidenheid aan formele beoordelingstaken biedt de mogelijkheid om concepten en modellen op creatieve en praktische manieren te verkennen. Deze omvatten posterpresentaties, case studies, groepspresentaties, rapporten en video's. Je werkt zowel individueel als in teamverband, net zoals je dat op de werkvloer zou doen.

Alle formele beoordelingen worden binnen elke module voltooid. Dit maakt een meer diepgaande consolidatie en toepassing mogelijk die nodig is voor succesvolle uitvoering van beoordelingstaken op basis van het complexe werk op functioneel niveau dat door professionele managers wordt uitgevoerd. Het weerspiegelt ook realistische tijdschema's op de werkplek voor het voltooien van taken. De sluitsteenmodule richt zich expliciet op de uitdaging van multifunctioneel werken en veelzijdige problemen.

Een actieve leerbenadering is ingebed in de MSc Business Management met een Professional Placement Year. Wij geloven dat effectief leren gebaseerd is op uw betrokkenheid bij diverse ervaringen en de manier waarop u die ervaringen begrijpt, zowel individueel als met anderen. Een team dat bestaat uit academici uit meerdere disciplines en professionals die een scala aan functies en sectoren vertegenwoordigen, zal de modules faciliteren.
